The Iowa DNR in conjunction with the Indianola Wellness Campus, Iowa Whitewater Coalition (IWC) and Iowa Confluence Water Trails (ICON) is happy to announce three kayak practice pool sessions at the Indianola Wellness Campus Competition pool located at 306 East Scenic Valley Ave, Indianola, IA 50125. These pools sessions will be free to participants and will focus on introducing participants to the equipment and gear used in whitewater kayaking with the goal of teaching participants how to roll their kayaks. Rolling is a fundamental skill necessary for successfully navigating whitewater rivers. To begin each participant will familiarize themselves with the whitewater kayak and how to successfully exit their boat in the event they flip their boat and are not able to roll. We will then progress to the hip/snap and eventually to rolling.

Iowa DNR and IWC will be providing American Canoe Association (ACA) certified whitewater kayaking instructors and all the necessary equipment to teach the ins and outs of whitewater kayaking. These sessions are aimed at preparing kayakers for the whitewater projects currently under construction in downtown Des Moines.

Scuba Fall & Winter Pool Sessions

Keep your scuba skills fresh during the cooler months with our our Scuba Skill Practice sessions in our heated competition pool.  These 2 hour open pool sessions are designed for certified divers looking to maintain proficiency in a controlled environment.

Requirements:

• Participants must hold a valid scuba certification (dive card required at check-in)
• All divers must bring their own equipment. Gear must be clear, well-maintained, and in proper working condition.
• No instruction is provided- this is a self-guided practice time only.
• All Tanks must have a boot to protect the pool deck tile.
